Anna & Peter’s Incredible Ashridge House Wedding with a Persian Ceremony
What. A. Day! From 3 incredible wedding dresses, to a helicopter, horse and carriage, a chapel blessing and a Persian Ceremony, a traditional knife dance to show girls and epic fireworks! To say the byLumiere team didn’t stop would be an understatement….
Anna was a truly calm, elegant and smiley bride from start to finish on this incredible day of celebrations. In order to fit in so many events she barely caught her breath and we know that one of her favourite moments of calm was the horse and carriage arrival for the church blessing.
The Persian Ceremony was planned to be outside but the May weather didn’t play ball so it was hosted in the Great Hall meaning that we had to light the whole ceremony for both photography and film.
A Persian wedding ceremony, or Aghd, is steeped in rich tradition and symbolism, with the highlight being the Sofreh Aghd—a stunning ceremonial spread laid out before the couple as they exchange vows. This ornate tablescape is more than decoration; it’s a meaningful display of items representing love, prosperity, and sweetness in marriage. Lavish arrangements of flowers and crystals frame the scene, while symbolic elements like honey (for a sweet life), fruit (for fertility and abundance), and mirrors and candles (for light and clarity) create a breathtaking, multi-sensory experience. Every detail is thoughtfully chosen, making the ceremony both deeply spiritual and visually spectacular.
